I remember reading this thing in Guitar Magazine or whatever back when I was a metalhead guitar playing terror. It was in interview with some major lead/solo guitarist and the gist was "mistakes will happen and they risk you losing your confidence or somehow else getting in your head and 'winning.' So when you fuck up - do something. Hit the next note extra hard, literally move the instrument in a way that says 'down boy,' anything to remind you who's boss.
Similarly, my K1 coach said "if you take a kick, it'll hurt. So don't just take it and say 'ow'. Give a kick back. Kick for kick. Use the feeling from getting kicked to immediately remind everyone you're still in control, top of the pecking order. Taking a bit doesn't mean losing.
Self acceptance is good. Don't be too hard on yourself. But part of that is being strong enough to not let mistakes get in your head. They'll happen inevitably. Kick back. Kick for kick.

In a land far away, a long long time ago,
I used to see myself as a very skinny (think a petulant lithe stick). Yet now that I've grown both literally and metaphorically, it can be hard to tell what I look like. Now at my gym, people call me "huge," or usually something similar but less dramatic sounding. But I feel average sized! Sometimes I look soft, other times sizeably rugged, but the idea that in a group of people I stand because of width, muscle, fat, height, or really any feature doesn't click.
Is this called body dysmorphophobia or just being a person over time? Maybe both? Maybe I.... actually am huge. What's your favorite way of thinking of me?

It's called recovery. Don't ask me where the bruises, the high-hanging balls, the glassware, or the reason for any of this comes from. Sometimes you just have to accept what you get, wonder, go "huh" and decide that when it comes to serious rehydration, why bother with a glass when you have a pitcher.
