The sun was relentless, warm in that lazy, goldenn way that makes you forget time. I slipped off the top of my bikini and stretched out on the towel, skin bare, eyes closed, not caring about anything except the sun on my chest and the breeze brushing across me like a secret.
It felt good. Free. Quiet.
Until it wasn’t.
I heard the crunch of feet in the sand — slow at first, then still. I opened my eyes, and there he was. Probably just walking the edge of the dunes, probably didn’t mean to see. But he DID. And we both knew it.
He froze. Not in shock — more like hesitation. Like he was deciding whether to apologize or pretend he hadn’t seen me at all. I didn’t cover myself right away. I don’t even know why. Maybe pride. Maybe defiance. Maybe because for a second, I liked the feeling of being seen like that — natural, unashamed, untouched by mirrors or clothes or rules.
He nodded once. Said, “Sorry,” almost too quietly to hear, and kept walking.
I waited until he was gone to put the top back on. I stayed a little longer, just enough to let the sun finish what it started.
I don’t feel embarrassed. Not exactly. 🤭
I just keep wondering if he’ll pass by again tomorrow.
